The ‘Sarvajana Balaya’ alliance presidential candidate Dilith Jayaweera emphasized the need for a strategic development plan for Sri Lanka during a constituency meeting held in Balangoda as part of the ‘Dilith Gamata’ series on Friday (06).Addressing the gathering, Jayaweera commented, “The so-called ‘curse of 77 years’ is a misrepresentation.
The real challenges began after 1977, but the root issue lies deeper.
Since gaining independence, Sri Lankan politics has lacked a comprehensive national strategy.
What the country needs is a strategic plan for development, utilizing our resources to their fullest potential.”Jayaweera further stated that entering politics was not part of his original intention.
“I never envisioned myself in politics.
I had no desire to compete in elections, but seeing the leadership of this country and the leaders who we supported falter, I felt compelled to step forward as a responsible, tax-paying citizen.”“We thought that the leaders of this country that we helped will build this country someday.
It didn’t happen.
However in the end, they left us.
So I came into politics in that situation.”“I believe there is nothing personal to gain from politics, but the nation must have strong leadership to thrive”, he added.
